On the 20th of April 2017 at Rhodes University’s Graduation Ceremony, the Amanzi for Food Programme received the Vice Chancellor’s Distinguished Community Engagement Award (one of two recipients). Teams or individuals are awarded this prestigious award when they are recognised for having an authentic approach to engaged research, focusing on establishing mutually respectful and beneficial relationships between University students, researchers and community stakeholders as the participants all attempt to tackle local issues.

The team then presented the research programme during the University’s Community Engagement Week on the 9th of May 2017 (first picture). The lecture was well received by those that attended and Mrs Busiswe Peter and Ms Ngele Makhaga were invaluable at the event. The programme is essentially structured to ensure systemic development around knowledge dissemination strategies.
