Amanzi for Food, Eastern Cape training of trainers’ graduation was celebrated at Rhodes University on the 11th of October 2018. The graduation commemorated the successful completion of the Training of trainers’ course which was undertaken by farmers, extension workers and lecturers from agricultural colleges in Eastern Cape most of whom are part of the Imvotho Bubomi learning network. The graduation was attended by representatives from Rhodes University, farmers, lecturers and extension workers. Guest of honor at the graduation ceremony was Professor Di Wilmot, Dean of Education at Rhodes University.
The celebration which was marked by song and dance, was befitting for the hard work and dedication that the participants had shown in completing the course. The training of trainers’ course comprised of a workshop where participants were oriented on the three modules on rainwater harvesting and conservation practices and other sustainable farming practices. Successful completion of the course involved completing three individual assignments and one group assignment. Those who successfully completed the course were awarded certificates of completion.
Speaking during the Graduation ceremony, Distinguished Professor Heila Lotz Sisitka, applauded the graduates for successfully completing the course saying,
“We are happy that Amanzi for Food is spreading and driving change in the country, we are working and learning together, which is a good thing. It’s a great privilege to have you all here. Our project Amanzi for Food (water is life) is essential because water is the most pressing issue on the continent. Water sustains us and we appreciate water and the sharing of knowledge of water”.
Certificates were handed over by Distinguished Professor Heila Lotz Sisitka and Mandilive Matiwane.
