Rainwater Harvesting Practices for Food Production

Overview

In this part of Module 1, you will work through two connected sections that help you understand how rainwater harvesting and conservation fits into real farming contexts. The first section focuses on different farming systems, such as homestead gardens, school gardens, community gardens, crop production and livestock systems, and helps you think about which water practices may be suitable in each context. The second section introduces the general principles of rainwater harvesting and conservation, including how to catch, hold, store and use water wisely. Together, these sections will help you link local water challenges with practical RWH&C responses. As you work through the activities, start thinking about the farming system you may want to investigate further for Assignment 1.
