Stories from rural Zimbabwe

Two of our research team members are Zimbabwean and that is where their love for agriculture was ignited as farming is very much part of the way of life in Zimbabwe. In a recent article in The Sunday Mail, Chris Mabeza shares his exploration around smallholder innovations to adapt to climate variability- see the link below.

Local farmers showed Mabeza around their properties where they have adapted various practices and technologies to access water in innovative ways, for example in the image above- the farmer is using gravity to transport water via a pipe down to his field. Climate change is a complex problem that farmers have to try adapt by experimenting new novel ways of doing things on their farms.
